P.J. Boatwright Internship

The Northern California Golf Association (NCGA), a non-profit service organization, currently consists of 1,250 clubs with a total membership approaching 160,000 making it the largest regional golf association in the country stretching from the Oregon border to central California and east into Nevada. Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach and Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore are owned and operated by the NCGA. The Association’s charitable arm, the NCGA Foundation, supports initiatives for deserving youth.

The NCGA is dedicated to educating its members and the public while growing the game of golf and increasing enjoyment of the sport. NCGA services range from tournament administration to course rating and handicapping to communications (NCGA Golf magazine), environmental services and teaching the Rules of Golf.

BACKGROUND:

The Northern California Golf Association is accepting applications for its nationally recognized P.J. Boatwright Internship Program.

In 2013 the NCGA will offer two internships for duration of six months providing a comprehensive introduction and extensive training experience for qualified interns in preparation for a career in golf administration.

1. April 1 through September 30, 2013 (Application packet due January 15, 2013)

2. May 16 through November 15, 2013 (Application packet due March 15, 2013)

The P.J. Boatwright, Jr. interns will work primarily with the following departments during these two six month internships: Communications, Championships and Events, as well as Member Relations and Development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A college degree (completed or in progress) preferred but not required. Applicants must have a high interest in golf administration with considerable knowledge the game of golf, be self-motivated, personable, willing to work flexible hours, and possess strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Proficiency in MS Office is essential. Golf skill as a player is helpful, but not required. USGA employees, USGA committee members, NCGA employees or board members, as well as relatives of all the aforementioned individuals are not eligible for the internship program.
