CIF State High School Boys’ Championship
PEBBLE BEACH – La Costa Canyon HS and Kevin Dougherty tamed Poppy Hills today, adding CIF/CGA Boys’ State Championship team and individual titles to their name. The La Costa Canyon HS team of Kramer La Plante, Niklas Moeller, Danny Angelucci, Tervor Simsby, Jordan Epstein and Steven Kearney fired a team score of 21-over-par 381 to capture the State Championship by five strokes. CIF Northern California High School Boys’ Championship
CHICO, CA – Martin Trainer birdied the first playoff hole to nab the 2009 Northern California High School Boys’ Individual Championship, while Cardinal Newman HS captured the team title at Butte Creek. Trainer, a senior at Gunn HS, three-putted the 18th green of the day to post a two-under-par 70 and force a playoff with Palma’s Matt Ogden, Chico’s Kurt Kitayama and Nick Sako of Menlo-Atherton HS. Trainer then went on to birdie the first playoff hole, “I hit a wedge into the green real close and then made the putt,” commented the 18-year-old who was medalist at the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifying in 2007… Read More

CIF Northern California High School Boys’ Championship
RICHMOND – In blustery conditions at Richmond CC, Daniel Semmler fired a two-under par 68 to claim the CIF/NCGA High School Boys’ Championship, while Rocklin High School secured the team honors. In a round that included hitting 16 of 18 greens in regulation, Semmler made five birdies on the 6,203-yard, par-70 course to edge out four other players who were one-stroke back. SALINAS – St. Francis High School once again reaffirmed its dominance in regional high school golf by winning the NCGA/CIF Girls’ High School Golf Championship while Sam Esguerra of Alameda HS captured the individual title at Corral de Tierra Country Club. Esguerra, the number two player on the Alameda team, fired a one-over-par 73 to claim the individual title by a single stroke.
