ROYAL OAKS, CA – The first Fall Series championship of the NCGA Junior Tour saw an array of fresh faces in the winner’s circle at Pajaro Valley today.

Kraig McLeod captured the Boys’ Championship Flight with one-under-par 143.  The Monterey Peninsula CC member carded a final-round two-over-par 74 after firing a career-low tournament score of three-under-par 69 on the first day.

It was the Carmel HS sophomore’s first tournament win for the year — a result of recent short-game practice.  “I’ve been working on my putting.  I putted well yesterday and then again today,” said the 16 year old.

Justin Suh of San Jose carded an even-par 72 and Dublin’s Taylor Bromley posted a two-over-par 74 to tie for second place at one-over-par 145.  Suh nabbed the runner-up medal, while Bromley took third, based on a card-off of final-round scores.

Casie Cathrea added to an already decorated year in golf by winning the Girls’ Championship Flight with three-over-par 147.  With rounds of 76-71, the 13-year-old Pleasanton resident secured the title by four strokes over the field.  Cathrea qualified for the U.S. Amateur and made it to the quarter-finals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links earlier in the season.

Folsom’s Paige Lee claimed runner-up honors with seven-over-par 151, while Bonnie Hu of Fremont and San Jose’s Tiffany Lim tied for third place with 11-over-par 155.

In the Boys’ First Flight, Justin Saco captured the title with 20-over-par 164.  The Alameda resident began the day in a three-way tie for third place but a final-round eight-over-par 80 lifted him up the leaderboard for a two stroke win.

Garrett Arbuckle of Clovis nabbed second place with 22-over-par 166, while Danville’s Chris Parkinson secured third with a pair of 84s and 168 total.

Kelly Shotwell of Pleasanton added a second NCGA Junior Tour title to her name when she claimed the Girls’ First Flight with 19-over-par 163.  After a first-round 85, the Amador HS player fired a six-over-par 78, which was the low-round in her division by three-strokes.  The 14-year-old won the First Flight division in the Junior Tour at Brookside event earlier in the year.

Emily Laskin of Elk Grove and overnight co-leader Jordan Keyser of Ahwahnee tied for second at 24-over-par 168.  Laskin carded a final-round 86 and nabbed the runner-up medal via a card-off, while Keyser posted an 87 and took third.

In the Boys’ Net event, for players in both the Championship and First Flights, Shintaro Ban of San Jose won with a net two-under-par 142.  Tharusyan Pillay of San Jose took second place after a card-off at 142 and Josh Boyles of Aromas finished in third with 143.

Andrea Wong from San Francisco captured the Girls’ Net with net seven-over-par 149.  San Ramon’s Kimberly Liu took second place, also with net 149, while Lisa Copeland of Hidden Valley Lake placed third at 153.

The NCGA Junior Tour makes its next stop at Haggin Oaks GC in Sacramento, September 19-20.
