NCGA Foundation: The charitable arm of the NCGA seeks to promote life skills and values through the game of golf to deserving youth in communities across Northern California. This includes the Youth on Course initiative which strives to offer the youth of Northern California access to golf courses by subsidizing discounted green fees so a child pays no more than $5.

Course Rating: Utilizing the USGA’s course rating system, a committee of 85 raters creates a strong foundation for the Handicap System.

Course Measurement: The NCGA provides accurate hole measurements to courses in Northern California using a state-of-the-art GPS system.

Rules: During the spring and summer, 2 ½ day rules seminars are offered for interested members. Registration is online at www.ncga.org. There will also be a series of on-course rules seminars offered throughout Northern California from April to October. Also, NCGA members can have their Rules questions answered by e-mailing grogers@ncga.org. Regular member clubs have access to a rules hotline to have questions answered or disputes resolved on weekends.

Education: This department coordinates a variety of “Seminars to Go” for NCGA members. Topics include: handicapping, course rating, the Rules of golf, tournament administration, the NCGA Foundation, and golf course issues such as water, pesticides, and new grasses. Other events planned through the education department include the 2006 Women’s Golf Summit, and leadership focus groups for associate clubs, golf course general managers and boards of directors.

eClubhouse: This new club management tool offers everything a club will need to build a website or accompany an existing site. With its easy-to-use, built-in site management tools, a club website can be created and customized in minutes. In addition, each site can be listed in a searchable database where potential members can find a club and even join online. Members of the site have access to association and club news and events, the ability to search for another golfer to play with, statistical tools and online event sign up.

Golf Legislation: The NCGA monitors all legislation dealing with golf course management via a legislative advocate located in Sacramento.

California Alliance for Golf: The NCGA, through its Environmental & Water Resources Department, is a leading participant in the California Alliance for Golf, a statewide golf-advocacy group taking a proactive approach to protect the golf industry. Water resources serves as the focal point for this organization.

Environmental and Water Resources: Acts as an information resource on turfgrass and water issues for all NCGA member clubs and golf course superintendents. Also provides educational programs to golf course personnel with helpful information on timely subject matters. To further stress key topics there is a Quarterly Bulletin - a four-page color brochure that highlights new turf research findings, quick hitting topics that track interesting industry trends and turfgrass pathology updates.

Intern Program: A highly competitive program sponsored by the NCGA, the intern program provides on-the-job training to prepare individuals for a career in golf course management.

USGA P.J. Boatwright Internship: The NCGA offers a twelve-month internship in cooperation with the USGA, which is designed as a comprehensive introduction and extensive training experience to a qualified person in preparation for a career in golf administration.

Membership Card Information

PLEASE RETAIN THE NCGA MEMBERSHIP CARD THAT YOU RECEIVED IN 2005.

NCGA plastic membership cards will no longer be issued on a yearly basis. Please retain the membership card that you received in 2005. Cards will only be generated for new members or for replacement orders.

During the NCGA Annual Fall Renewal Period, NCGA membership cards are not issued because the NCGA is not billing the club for membership dues.

Orders for replacements cards during the renewal period will be accepted but cards for new members and replacement orders will not be issued until January. If an active member has a card lost or stolen during the Annual Fall Renewal Period, the NCGA will submit a verification sheet on the member’s behalf to Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge.

NCGA members who have not yet received their membership card may receive Poppy Hills discounts with knowledge of their NCGA/GHIN membership number and photo I.D. Poppy Hills has access to the latest membership information and can confirm the status of an individual’s membership. Poppy Ridge does NOT have access to such current information at this time (Poppy Ridge’s information is updated once a month). It may be necessary to contact the NCGA Office days in advance of a Poppy Ridge visit in order to secure discounts. Photo I.D. will also be required at Poppy Ridge.

Multi-Member Rebate Information

Over the past two years the number of rebate submissions has dropped 43% to an all-time low and to a point where only a little over 6% of those eligible for a rebate have applied. This drastic decline coupled with the high cost and resources necessary to process applications, do not justify the continuance of the program in 2006.

Proper Use of Membership Cards

Membership Cards are for the exclusive use of the individual named on the card and may not be transferred or loaned to another member or nonmember for use at Poppy Hills GC or Poppy Ridge GC. Any abuse/misuse of a Membership Card will result in the confiscation of the card and suspension of NCGA services.
