PEBBLE BEACH - Three duos grabbed victories in three respective handicap flights of the NCGA Mixed Team Championship at Poppy Hills. The event used a modified Chapman format whereby male/female partners each hit a drive, switch balls for the second shot and then finish the hole with a chosen single ball.
In the President’s Flight, for low handicappers, Karen and Scott Louis of Riverview took the title over Matt Miller of Eagle Ridge and Gail McCloskey of Pajaro Valley after a two-hole playoff. Both duos turned in a two-round total of 7-under 137, outpacing third-place finishers Andrea Ramirez and Mark Stanley of Indian Valley and Linda and Mark Klemczak of Sunday Only by one stroke.
The Director’s Flight saw Clares and Elizabeth Kooiman of Masters Big Valley GC take the title, breaking their first-round tie with Laura and Paublo Barrera of Contra Costa, who finished second. The Kooimans turned in an 11-under-par 133 to win by two strokes. Kevin and Maureen Hughes of Tilden Park and Fore Women’s GA respectively, George Allen and Diana VolpiniAllen of Half Moon Bay and Jeff and Sandra Lucero of Turlock finished in a tie for third.
