PEBBLE BEACH – The Shelter Cove team of Pat Goodman, Andy Freed, Travis Early and Justin Graham held onto their first-round lead to win the NCGA Zone Championship at Poppy Hills.
Shelter Cove’s final score of 46-under-par 242, in the format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole, was good for a seven-stroke victory over the Green Tree GC Team of Brian Foster, Michael Foster, Mike Furey and Eben Stevens. Green Tree had started the day 10 strokes behind the leaders. Forebay GC finished third, nine strokes behind the leaders.
All the teams in the Zone Championship qualified via finishing in first or second place in one of 14 Zone Championships held throughout the spring.
