PEBBLE BEACH - The Bridges GC team of John Arents, Tom Cignarella, Terry Nystrom and Grant Sparkes grabbed the NCGA East Bay Zone Championship, coming from four stokes down in the final round at Spyglass Hill.
Bridges’ team turned in a stellar final round net 20-under 124 for a 257 total in the format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole. One stroke back, the Willow Park team of Richard Bierman, Mark Hemenez, Joe Johnson and Craig Pitts tied with one of the NCGA’s newest clubs, the Stonebrae CC team of Christian Rutishauser, Mike Paez, Bruce Baxter and Jay Guittard, for second. After a one-hole playoff, Stonebrae earned second place.
The Bridges and Stonebrae advance to the Zone Championship to be played at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills on August 25-26.
