SAN MATEO – The NCGA Junior Tour’s third event of the season concluded today at Poplar Creek GC, with competition spanning five age-division flights.
Matthew Seramin of San Geronimo captured the Boys’ overall championship with a final round 72, finishing one-over-par for the tournament. In the Boys’ 16-18 flight, Eric Runge of Los Altos claimed the title by one stroke with a one-under-par 69 on the final day to finish at 142. Sean Nadir of Los Altos grabbed the runner-up spot with a tidy three-under-par round, while Sunnyvale’s Michael Kasianchuk finished three strokes back at 146 to claim third-place.
In the Boys’ 14-15 flight, Moraga’s Bjorn Kallerud shot a 70 to force a playoff with Bryson Dechambeau of Clovis. Kallerud had been in third place going into the final round and won the championship on the first play-off hole. Carlos Briones, Luke Vivolo and Jonathan Delosreyes all finished three strokes behind at eight-over-par 148, tied for third-place.
Dublin’s Justin Pagila captured the Boys’ 12-13 title with a final round 73, finishing at eight-over-par 148 for the tournament. Pagila edged out Jason Kuo from Milpitas and Nicolo Galletti of Clayton who finished one stroke back on 149. Galletti went on to steal the runner-up spot in a playoff over third-place winner Kuo.
San Jose’s Hannah Suh fired a scorching two-under-par final round to claim the girls overall championship at Poplar Creek. Suh missed equalling the course record at Poplar Creek by just one stroke with a round that included six birdies. Suh finished the tournament at one-over-par 145 to win by four strokes.
In the Girls 15-18 flight, Tessa The of Los Altos held onto her first-round lead to win the division by one stroke with a 74 in the final round, finishing with 149 for the tourament. Fremont’s Bonnie Hu improved by eight strokes with a one-under-par 71 to claim second, while Tiffany Nichols of Castro Valley finished in third place on 156.
Livermore’s Casie Cathrea shot a 71 on the final day to grab the Girls 12-14’ division by one stroke over Tiffany Lim of San Jose. Lim had a 73 to finish on 152, while Lauren Kim of Los Altos finished two strokes back in third with a 77.
The NCGA Junior Tour’s next stop will be in Sacramento at Haggin Oaks GC, September 20-21.
