PEBBLE BEACH - King City’s Jesse Lopez, Bob Martin, Jon Olson and Richard Smith came from behind in the final round to capture the NCGA South Coast Zone Championship at Poppy Hills.
King City fired a two-round, net 256 total, in the format that takes the best two of four scores per hole, to win by three shots. The Bayonet team of Boughner, Robert Hammel, Ron Hardy and Clifford Thornburg finished second, also making a strong move in the final round. The Hunter Ranch team of Don Dick, James Dixon, Michael Giuliano and John Nicholas was unable to hold onto its first-round lead, fading to third place.
Both King City and Bayonet advance to the Zone Championship to be played at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills on August 25-26.
