Equipment Innovations

Greens Spiker

Objective: To utilize the benefits of a greens spiker in a timely and efficient manner.

Solution: Purchased a fully assembled replacement roller from Gandy. Installed a 12-volt hydraulic jack as well as an actuator. Fabricated a protective roller shroud out of a plastic drum. Installed green saver tires on an existing Cushman truckster. Cost of fabrication for the greens spiker was in the $1,400 range.

Contact: Jason Marcuson at Monterey Peninsula Country Club for additional information about the greens spiker.

Cart Path Edger and Blower

Objective: To edge and clean off the debris of cart paths in a more time and labor efficient manner.

Solution: Install an Edge Pro edger onto the front of a sand pro. A Selbro Pro Blo blower was attached to the back of the sand pro to blow off the debris immediately after it has been cut.

Contact: Steve Bonhanna at Serrano Country Club for more information on the cart path edger and blower.

Greens Roller

Objective: To have the ability to roll greens at a faster rate than the traditional greens roller.

Solution: Build a greens roller as an attachment to an existing Sand Pro. Purchased an eight-inch section of recycled oil pipe. Installed two small section of railroad track on top of the roller for additional weight. Reinforced the existing frame of the Sand Pro. Installed smooth tires to the Sand Pro. Cost of fabrication of the Greens Roller was in the $300.00 range.

Contact: Jason Marcuson at Monterey Peninsula Country Club for additional information about the greens roller.

Portable Lights

Objective: To have the ability to work into the night without having to rent additional equipment.

Solution: Purchase small trailer. Install a generator and light standards. Also built a wooden box to store extra light bulbs. Cost of fabrication for each trailer was in the $1,200-$1,500 range.

Contact: Kregg Bush at Poppy Hills GC for more information about the portable lights.

Fairway Unit Modification

Objective: To stabilize the cutting units during transport

Solution: 1) Spot weld the steel ball. The roll pin would break off due to the pressure during transport (bottom left picture). 2) Weld a seven -inch section of 1 1/2” square tubing on the back of the landing plate (bottom right picture). This keeps the ball in place during transport.

This is a temporary solution for this problem. Contact the local equipment distributor for additional information regarding this problem.

Contact: Sal Seeno at Cypress Point Club for more information about this procedure or problem.

Bunker Roller

Objective: To reduce buried balls in bunker faces.

Solution: Use a tennis court squeegee to help compact the bunker edges. A 36” squeegee was cut down to 24”. Reducing the length of the roller helps when using the roller along the contour lines of the bunker. The squeegee rollers last approximately 6 months.

Contact: Larry Johnson at North Ridge CC for more information on the bunker rollers.

Dewsweeper

Objective: Remove the dew off of putting surfaces in an easy and eye appealing fashion.

Solution: Fabricate a dewsweeper that looks and perform much like a triplex greens mower.

Contact: Jason Marcuson at Monterey Peninsula Country Club for information on how to purchase or build the dewsweepers.
